On the evening of October 30, 1998, Jake had been partying with friends that night, drinking beers and horsing around by breaking bottles over their heads. At about midnight, Just was last seen walking home with some friends after a Devil's Night party.

On the way home, Jake decided to take a trail through the woods. His friend continued along the street and the two were to meet up at the point where the trail exited to the street. He was drinking heavily and was intoxicated.

A friend said Jake, who had been drinking, fled into the woods after being chased by a local resident as the party ended.

When friends began calling the house the next day looking for Jake, his mother knew something was wrong. She reported him missing that evening, almost 24 hours after he was last seen.

The problem for investigators has always been, now what? If Jake made it out of the woods, where could he possibly have gone?

Hampered by a possible head injury and under the influence of alcohol, did he lose his way and stumble into a boggy swamp, where he was swallowed up by so-called quicksand?

Although a marsh and quicksand were near the wooded trail, searchers could find no physical evidence to suggest that Jake, or anyone, had traveled near these areas in the days prior to Jake's disappearance.

Theories abound - some of them floated by psychic mediums hoping to help solve the case. One medium told Debbie Just her son made it out of the woods only to be struck dead by a car on the street, scooped up by the panicked drunk driver and whisked away.

Just, desperate for any clues, listened to the self-proclaimed psychics.

"Almost immediately one of the women grabbed my arm and said, "You know he's dead." "I was not prepared for that. Of course that is in the back of your mind but for someone just to say that."

In the end, psychics uncovered nothing solid, no credible leads for police to pursue.

"I haven't found they can truly solve or help," Just said.

Despite an eight day search, no physical evidence linking back to Jake was found.

When Jake entered the wooded area, he was carrying a knapsack. It has not been recovered.

There were hundreds of potential witnesses interviewed and numerous tips were follow up on.

In recent years, police have received more calls from people with theories than tips. One such theory has Jake deciding to follow a hydro corridor through the woods to the area of a Midland strip club, where he may have been abducted by unsavory characters.

Again, police have no evidence, no witnesses, that suggest Jake was anywhere near that area.

And his mother believes her 170-pound, six-foot-two son could take care of himself in an altercation, especially since had been studying karate since he was a child.

Marcas was also seen at a bank in Massey, Ontario on June 9th, 1998. There have been no sightings of him since then.

Toronto, Ontario - Isaac Flores along with his older sister, Sara, were abducted by their non-custodial mother, Carmen Bermudez - Quintana, on February 18th 1995 from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The three of them have not been seen since.

Carmen is described as a Hispanic Female, strawberry blonde hair, Brown eyes. She stood at 5'10" and weighing 150 pounds. She was 34 years old in 1995. She was born on February 27th 1960.

Trying to escape her troubled past, Lori was looking for a new start in Toronto. Battling a drug addiction, Lori worked in the sex trade to support her habit. Her apartment was located in a rough area and the school parking lot where she was found was in an area notoriously frequented by drug dealers.

Toronto police had collected evidence from Lori and the scene of her murder, but at the time, DNA testing was not available. Now, police have a DNA profile of the man they believe killed Lori and are looking for a name to go along with that DNA profile. Unfortunately, the killer's DNA has not been found in the national DNA database.

"Now, that we have the killer's DNA, we just need a name to go with it." says Det-Sgt. Stacy Gallant. Gallant said police are convinced that someone knows the man who killed Pinkus.

"There is no doubt that there are people that are close with the offender or who were close to him back at the time of this offence. And you know he is responsible for this murder," he said. "This is a killer who left a young woman's body on display in a school yard. It is time he is held to account for his despicable actions."

Did Lori know her attacker? Was she the victim of a drug deal gone wrong?

Was she simply and tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Can advancements in DNA technology finally bring her killer to long-deserved justice?

With big breaks happening in cold cases recently, let's hope that we are starting to see the beginning of a wave of cold cases being solved by DNA, where victims receive justice and perpetrators of violent crimes are finally dragged out from their shadowy hiding spots.

American customs officials recorded Mylan's vehicle entering the United States at the Rainbow Bridge on February 14, the day after he was last seen. It has not been established whether he was driving it at the time.

A few days later, a man found Mylan's car abandoned with the keys in the ignition. It was parked near the jewelry stands at the Little Colorado Gorge Overlook at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The man took the car for himself and drove it around for a few months until it broke down.

On June 8, 1998, nearly four months after Mylan's disappearance, his car was found stripped and parked off State Route 64 in Flagstaff, Arizona. It had been there for months. A search of the Little Colorado Gorge, beneath where the car was left originally, turned up no indication of his whereabouts.

Mylan's family told authorities that it is uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning; they cannot think of an explanation for his disappearance. At the time of his disappearance, he was a student at Humber College's north campus in Toronto, Ontario, majoring in business. Canadian authorities are investigating this case.

It is worth noting that no evidence has been discovered indicating that Steven ever even made it out of Canada before disappearing. It could be just as likely that an earlier, unknown person stole his car first, driving it into the United States when it was first noticed entering, before ultimately abandoning it for reasons unknown. Sadly, this theory is nothing more than empty speculation.

It was more than two weeks before the Toronto area woman was identified. The cause of her death was not released, and it is believed she had been beside the road for approximately one day.

Investigators are seeking to identify a man that had been seen with Nadine on more than one occasion, just prior to her death. He is described as being in his late 20s, 6', medium build, with short brown hair and clean shaven.

According to the RCMP, the blond-haired and blue-eyed boy was last seen by his mother at around 3:15 p.m. He was reportedly playing on a swing set in a neighbour's yard not far from home. Cameron went into the neighbour's residence to play with a friend but was told that the friend was sleeping. He then left the residence and walked towards his house.

Not a day goes by that Gerry March doesn't think about his son Cameron, who disappeared more than 45 years ago.

March, who is turning 78, recalls the day he received the news.

"I was setting up a show at the CNE grounds. In those days you had no cellphones. So I never found out anything was going on until I got back to the office. All I was told was that he was missing. So I had to go from Mississauga back to Burlington," he said.

He felt "devastated" upon returning home, while his wife, Barbara March, "was just beside herself."

Extensive investigation and searches for the boy went on for "many, many days" and helped by "thousands of people."

The Milton Champion reported on its May 14 edition in 1975 how the aerial and land search efforts "covered the wooded swampy areas bounded by Blind Line, Colling Road, Guelph Line and Britannia Road."

It was later extended to the Lowville area and the Nelson Sand and Gravel pits, where "ponds in the area were dragged and explored by divers."

But their efforts were "to no avail" and to this day, Cameron's whereabouts are still unknown.

Over four decades later, March still keeps a box with newspaper clippings and "things from people." He's also still in touch with the police, the last time being a little over a year ago.

"They said they hadn't heard anything," March said.

Det.-Sgt. Kevin Britton of the Halton Regional Police Service said Cameron's disappearance remains open "until we're able to locate him or confirm what has happened to him or where he's gone."

"We are aided by tips from the public and if people provide us with new information... we will look into any new and all information we receive," he said.

In 1981, the March family decided to move from Burlington to Parry Sound, "not (to start) a new life but a different life."

"It was tough but we stuck it out and we made the best of it and moved away from where we were," he said, feeling blessed that they got to raise their other son - and now have a couple of grandchildren.

Cheryl Hanson was 8 years old when she disappeared from Aurora, Ontario, Canada on May 31st 1974. She was last seen at approximately 5:30 pm after she asked her mother for permission to have a sleepover with her cousins who lived approximately 10 minutes away from her family's farm. Her mother initially denied the request but then let her go. Cheryl packed her pajamas into a brown paper bag and was seen walking down the driveway towards her cousins house.

"At first I said no. Not tonight. Not today. She kept wanting to go and I agreed."

Cheryl's mother said she had a "bad" feeling after Cheryl had gone and called the house to see if Cheryl had made it to the house. Cheryl never arrived to her cousins house and was never seen or heard from again.

"I called up and said, 'Did she get there?' and they said no she's not here yet. I went running up the road. I thought she might have been hit by a car or something and that was it. I never saw her again."

After Cheryl disappeared, several witnesses came forward and stated they had seen Cheryl walking along Bloomington Road in Aurora. An extensive search which included over 411 volunteers commenced but no trace of Cheryl was ever found. Authorities believe that she was abducted and the victim of foul play.

"If we knew something one way or another, it would at least [bring] some closure - and we are not getting any younger," Cheryl's mother Patricia Hanson said.

A few months after Cheryl's disappearance, Donald Everingham was charged with the sexual assault and the attempted murder of a 9 year old girl. He confessed to several other murders, including the murder of Cheryl. He provided a description of the clothing that the girl was wearing and led authorities to the place that he allegedly disposed of her body. Cheryl's remains were not located and Everingham has since recanted his confession. He remains a person of interest in the case, however. He was unable to provide an alibi for the time that Cheryl was likely abducted.

50 year old William 'Bill' Bokstein's family says they just want him back, and miss him terribly.

William Bokstein left his residence in Hamilton, Ontario on February 23, 2018 at 08:00 A.M. to drop his daughter off at school. After dropping off his daughter, it is believed that Mr. Bokstein traveled to Niagara Falls.

Every year, Hamilton police receive more than 1,500 reports of missing people. Sometimes they are found right away and sometimes they don't want to be found. But each must be taken seriously. When someone is seriously in trouble, every minute counts.

On February 25, 2018, William Bokstein was captured on video near the Fallsview Casino where he withdrew money. Mr. Bokstein has never gone missing before and has not been in contact with his family since, which is out of character for him.

He is a white man, about 5'10, 180-190 lbs. He has short, dirty blond, grey hair and blue eyes. Bokstein also has a nose ring, an earring, and tattoos on both arms and legs.

Const. Kim Walker is Hamilton's only missing person co-ordinator, a position created in 2011 and that she's held since late 2015. "I see every single one that comes through every day," Walker says. It's her job to make sure no detail is missed.

Most reports come in the same way - at a police station front desk - and most are investigated by front-line officers - representing a huge part of the workload for uniform patrol.

In Hamilton, there have been near miraculous cases where people have been found days after going missing. In 2015, for instance, Franco Mamone, then 75, was found in a field in Dundas three days after going missing without his medication.

At 10:30am Nicole had gone to the lobby of the twenty story apartment building to pick up the mail. She returned to the apartment and got ready to go swimming with a playmate.

Before leaving the apartment Nicole had spoken to a friend through the building's intercom and promised to be right down. The playmate waited about 15 minutes before buzzing the apartment again to find out why Nicole hadn't arrived. The two girls had arranged to meet in the lobby and go to a supervised swimming pool at the rear of the building.

About 11:00am Nicole said goodbye to her mother and left the apartment. There has been no trace of the girl, who was likely abducted moments after leaving the apartment in the Highway 427 and Rathburn Road area.

A massive search effort was launched by police for the missing eight-year-old girl, and though officials have received thousands of tips over the years, what happened to Morin remains a mystery.

Her disappearance would spark an extensive search of Etobicoke and the launch of a 20-member taskforce, with approximately 900 community members helping to look for the little girl. Unfortunately, No one has seen the girl since she closed the apartment door and walked into the penthouse hallway.

In 2004, researchers for a Belgian organization known as Fondation Princesses de Croy et Massimo Lancellotti announced that they had tentatively matched photographs of Morin seen on a Canadian police website with pictures on a Dutch website that advocates for sexually-abused children. Using biometrical analysis, the researchers claimed a strong resemblance between Morin and a child in a pedophile network in Zandvoort.

Despite the years of investigations and thousands of leads, no physical evidence has ever been uncovered to solve the disappearance.

In 2019, on the 34th anniversary of her disappearance, an age-enhanced, artist rendition of Morin was released. The sketch shows what Morin might look like in her 40s.

The case remains open to this day.

Circumstances of Discovery

Recreational divers found a severed head in the Otonabee River near Peterborough. Police conducted searches and no other body parts were found. The victim's head had been severed from his body with a sharp object. He was dubbed the Otonabee River Man.

"Justin told the friend around 10 p.m. that he planned to stay out late, or perhaps all night. He did not say why," the report reads. It was the first unanswered question in a case that would generate countless others.

Though it began with an all-too-familiar story - a young person is reported missing, police ask the public for leads, loved ones pray they're located safely - the mystery of Justin's disappearance has deepened and darkened with the passage of time.

The cold case is now more than a decade old, and the narrative surrounding his disappearance has shifted. Every possible theory about what happened to the 14-year-old has disturbing implications. His family has been devastated, and his mother left to question her son's fate, and how his case was handled.

Ottawa Police is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information confirming the current whereabouts of Justin Rutter or leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible for his disappearance.

Ontario Provincial Police hope a new facial reconstruction of a man whose remains were found west of Kingston more than three decades will help solve his murder.

The man's body was found in October 1989 in a ditch next to County Road 14 in Stone Mills Township, Ontario, which is near the village of Enterprise. Police say they hope the new facial reconstruction will help someone identify him.

OPP release facial reconstruction of man found dead in 2017 "We want to give this man back his name and his identity back," said OPP Det. Insp. Serge Acay. "This is somebody"s son, brother, father perhaps. We don't know. He has family somewhere."

The man was found bound and gagged. Police estimate his body may have been in the ditch for about two weeks, during which his facial features decomposed. They say all their investigate efforts to date have not been able identify him.

Recent forensic analysis shows he was a south Asian man between 35 and 55 years old. Forensic artist Const. Duncan Way spent hours shaping the clay reconstruction, right down to the clothes he was wearing when found.

Police say he was wearing a white short-sleeved dress shirt, a red and blue pullover, a sweater with a red, black and grey diamond pattern, grey socks with blue and red stripes, and black loafers.

"We don't know what happened to him, where he came from, where he was before," Acay said. "Somebody - one person or persons - did this to him, and we want to hold these people, or person, responsible."

Police are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the man's death.

The bodies of Dee Dee Williamson and her son, Xavier Rucker, were found on February 27, 2003. Twenty years later, the investigation continues.

Williamson's sister was the first to come upon the gruesome scene, locating Williamson’s severely beaten body in the basement of the residence.

Xavier's body was in the bathroom on the main floor. For investigation reasons, police have never disclosed the child’s cause of death.

"There are people out there who know who is responsible for this double murder or who have information that can help us solve this crime," said Daniel Potvin, Superintendent in charge of investigations.

"We hope the additional reward money will provide the incentive these people need to come forward and tell what they know. Even a small piece of information that someone thinks is trivial be the missing evidence that allows our investigations to connect the dots and finally solve this mystery."

On the 20th anniversary of these horrific homicides, members of the Williamson family joined investigators to announce that a $40,000 reward is now being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case — twice the amount that was previously announced, and the highest amount for any current Windsor police investigation.

"Twenty years is a very long time of not knowing and unanswered questions," said Dee Dee's niece Nike Williamson.

She said while she was very young when the crime happened, it is something that is on her mind daily.

Const. Steve Owen, lead investigator on the case said there have been numerous persons of interested who have been ruled out through DNA evidence.

"Through the years like I said, there's been numerous persons of interest some were easily rolled out. Some have not been some are still persons of interest and some are strong persons of interest where there may be more than one thing that points to that person," he said. "But at this point, we're not prepared to say it's this one individual."

Const. Owen said Dee Dee had friends on both sides of the border, so there are persons of interest in both Detroit and Windsor. He said the focus is evenly split between the two cities with Detroit police cooperating.

"We want to not only solve the homicides and bring people who are responsible through the court system, but it so important for the families to get that closure," said Acting Deputy Chief Jason Crowley. "That's the importance of finding who is responsible for these crimes and bringing them to justice."

Kirk Knight

The oldest case on the list is the May 1980 murder of Kirk Knight. Someone kidnapped him, tied him to a cement block and dumped him into the Detroit River, likely while he was still breathing.

Police have said in the past they believe members of the Lobos biker gang, which patched over to the Hells Angels in 2001, were behind the brutal slaying.

Knight's murder likely stemmed from the May 16, 1980, shooting of Lobos gang member John Muzzatti outside the Seminole Tavern, now known as Silvers. Knight's brother was a suspect in the shooting. Muzzatti survived, but the gang wanted payback.

Knight, who had nothing to do with the gunplay, was last seen May 19, 1980, being forced into a green 1972 Chevy Nova by three men. A boater found his body on May 25, 1980, still tied to the cement block, bobbing against some abandoned docks.

Marlene Sweet and Jason

The next oldest case is the double murder of Marlene Sweet, 31, and her seven-year-old son, Jason. Their badly decomposed bodies were found in their home, apartment 15 at 8671 Wyandotte St. E., on Sept. 13, 1982. Their deaths were violent. Police have said Sweet was beaten to death and her son appeared to have been smothered.

Debilleanne "Dee Dee" Williamson and Xavier Brandon Rucker

On Feb. 27, 2003, the bodies of Debilleanne "Dee Dee" Williamson and her four-year-old son, Xavier Brandon Rucker, were discovered in their home at 1323 Tilston Dr. Police never established a motive or a firm suspect, but several persons of interest remain under investigation.

Gerardine Butterfield

Gerardine Butterfield, 63, was discovered dead in her apartment at 591 Wellington Ave. on May 25, 2019. But police believe she was killed several days before that. Butterfield lived alone in apartment 101 and allowed only immediate family members to visit her. It was known that she would only leave her apartment with those select family members.

Anyone seen with her, trying to contact her or leaving her apartment in May 2019 would be considered suspicious. It was revealed in 2020 that a person of interest had been identified, but police were still looking for more witnesses and additional information.

Jerome Allen

Jerome Allen, 29, was last seen early in the morning on Octobaer 28, 2018, at Leopard's Lounge and Broil. He was reported missing seven days later. Allen's body was never found. Despite not having a body, a crime scene or a murder weapon, police believe he was murdered.

Allen was living in the Windsor area when he disappeared but he had ties to the Greater Toronto Area. Police have said they believe there are people in Windsor, the GTA and elsewhere who know what happened, who is responsible, and where Allen's body was hidden.

Her employer had reported her missing three days earlier.

"We found out she had been missing for two or three days at that point and then it was pretty much the next day, was when we were told they found her body," recalled her sister.

Kara Lynn Clark was last seen leaving a residence in the area she was later found around 1 am. Authorities say her body had obvious signs of trauma but have not released a cause of death. They list her death as "suspicious" but will not comment on whether or not they believe she was murdered.

Clark and her mother travelled eight hours from Timmins to get Kara's body, only to learn three days later her remains were already on the way back to Timmins

Police said all possible investigative leads have been "exhausted" and the case is now classified as "pending further information."

"This means that investigators will act on any new information in relation to this investigation as it is received," said Cst. Bancroft Wright.

Since Kara was found with "little to no hair," the family believed she may have been scalped. However, that theory on the condition of her hair was debunked by investigators.

Kara had recently moved from Timmins to Brampton and was working at a recycling facility. According to Clark, she was living with a boyfriend she met at work.

Clark said during that last phone call with her sister, Kara revealed she had a fight with her boyfriend.

Clark said police were called and charges laid.

Police said there are separate reports in which both Kara and her boyfriend were charged in relation to domestic related incidents, but they would not confirm if the incidents took place during the days leading up to Kara’s murder.
