Top five high-risk cities in Canada listed among the country's top 20 cities with highest crime index. The rankings take into account each position's Crime Severity Index (CSI), an evaluation of the total level of crime over the previous 12 months.

Like Winnipeg, Regina has a significantly higher violent crime rate compared to non-violent crime. Regina's CSI for violent crime increased 13% from 2023, while non-violent crime decreased by nearly 5%.

Property crimes, such as burglary from residences and motor vehicles, are notable, with 50 and 26 incidents, respectively.

Winnipeg, MB (4)

Winnipeg has high crime rates, especially for violent crime, homicides, and sexual assaults. Winnipeg's sexual assault rate was 108 per 100,000 people, which is among the highest in the country.

The data released by Statistics Canada, which measures crime per 100,000 people, shows Winnipeg saw the largest jump in crime severity – 20 percent – of any other Canadian city from 2021 to 2022.

According to the Red Deer RCMP, property crimes have significantly decreased, while persons crimes have shown a slight increase.
